Foundations of Distilling

During the 1-2 day course, students are welcomed to an introductory ‘behind the scenes’ look at the Tasmanian whisky industry and taken through malt, mashing, fermenting, distilling and preparing for market.

The course starts at Hobart’s Hadley’s Orient Hotel and travels to Moo Brew Brewery and Sullivans Cove Distillery where students are taken through the process by the lead brewer and distiller before a final tasting session.

The event is a 5-day technical event open to anyone who is currently distilling or has an interest in learning more about the technical aspects of distilling.The course supports IBD’s General Certificate of Distilling curriculum, and will be useful for distillers who wish to use the course to improve their technical knowledge or for those wishing to go on and complete the General Certificate of Distilling.

Scottish Study Tour

Run over 7 days on 9-16 June 2018, it will take in some of Scotland’s finest distilleries, sights and countryside in the Speyside and Aberdeen regions. This special group will be escorted around the distilleries and be provided insights into the Scottish distilling scene with Alan giving background and context for guests.

We’ve arranged some special whisky lunches and dinners including Lunch at the Gleneagles hotel, a visit to St Andrews – home of Scotland’s best known golf course – and finish our week back in Edinburgh with the Scotch Malt Whisky Society for a special dinner.

Cost is A$4490 per person and includes:
