Foundations of Distilling

During the 1-2 day course, students are welcomed to a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the whisky industry and taken through malt, mashing, fermenting, distilling and preparing for market. The course covers initial business and compliance requirements for distilling, the processes and prepares people opening new distilleries to move towards realisation. A great course for knowledge, contacts and next steps

The course starts at Hobart’s Hadley’s Orient Hotel and travels to Moo Brew Brewery and Sullivans Cove Distillery where students are taken through the process by the lead brewer and distiller before a final tasting to identify qualities of a good spirit.

The Starting and Australian Distillery course (Distillery Planning) will help people who are thinking of getting into distilling, or those who are just starting out to work through a number of the things needed to get their distillery going.  Covering planning, marketing, information about the forms and processes, where to go for more information and where to find suppliers.  This is ideal for those who haven’t starting building yet, still need to make key decisions and those people thinking they’d like to try distilling out. Our pilot course finished 31 October and we’ll have a new course up mid 2019.
